<description><![CDATA[<img src="https://static.riverbender.com/obits/987DBC54-E82C-4676-B6CA61AE2CDE3295.jpg" /> Thomas Edward Austin, Jr., age 69, of St. Charles, Missouri, passed away on June 3, 2026. He was born on July 13, 1956, in Granite City, Illinois, to Thomas Edward Austin, Sr. and Mary Ellen Morris. 
Thomas was a man of curiosity, ingenuity, and quiet dedication. From a young age, he was captivated by the night sky. His fascination with astronomy led him to build a telescope capable of viewing Jupiter&mdash;an accomplishment that reflected both his creativity and his determination to understand the world beyond his own. 
He spent many years working on the assembly line for A.O. Smith, where he was known for his strong work ethic and steady presence. Later, he contributed his skills to Maytag, where he played a role in the development of the Neptune Motor, a project that showcased his technical ability and commitment to innovation.

<title>Michael Doles</title> 
<description><![CDATA[<img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/riverbender/images/obitsnophoto.jpg" /> Michael Newton Doles, 79, passed away June 6, 2026 at Alton Memorial Hospital. 
Born November 18, 1946 in Alton, he was the son of Noble Johnson and Mary Elizabeth (White) Doles. 
A U.S. Army veteran, he had been employed for 20 years at Owens-IL Glass and then worked another 20 years at St. Louis Regional Airport. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed gardening. 
Surviving are his companion of several years, Linda House of Rosewood Heights; daughter, Melissa Doles of Wood River; and brother, Patrick (Paula) Doles of Rosewood Heights. 
Visitation will be from 1 pm until time of service at 4 pm, Sunday, June 14 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Pastor Timothy Keller will officiate. 
Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with military honors at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, June 17.

She was born on May 10, 1978, in Alton, the daughter of Michael and Brenda (Lefler) Wyhs. 
Dawn loved her family deeply, especially her daughters and grandchildren. Dawn loved anything with bright colors, Tinker Bell, horror movies, and Stephen King. She could also be seen doodling on any spare paper she could find. She was a very generous and kind woman and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and those in her community. 
She is survived by her mother, Brenda Wyhs of Carlinville; fianc&eacute; Joshua McDaniles of Carlinville; three daughters, Hannah Bell (Cade Muenstermann) of Godfrey, Megan Bell (Justyn Beavin) of Troy, MO, and Kiersten Bell (James Whitt) of Hannibal, MO; five grandchildren, Asher, Theodore, Kai, Hayden, and Rolla; brother, Jeremy Wyhs; sister Nicole Wyhs; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was an administrative assistant for the Illinois State Police of Litchfield, IL. Mary was a graduate of Gillespie High School Class of 1969. 
She is survived by her daughters, Jamie (Tyson Wagner) Chapman of Freeburg, IL, Mindy Jenkins of Edwardsville, IL, granddaughters, Madyx Whaley, Dallas Jenkins, Naveah Chapman, sister, Ann (Dave) Bedinger of Denton, TX, brothers, Harry (Pat) Cavanaugh, Michael (Anne) Cavanaugh and former husband, James Davis of Gillespie, IL. 
Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

He is survived by his step father, James Licklider, children, Dillon, Isaih Pulley, Braidyn Licklider, Bentley White, children he raised, Skylar Triplett, Chloe Triplett, aunt, Katherine Hubbard and lifelong friend, Ron Arnold of Gillespie. Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="https://static.riverbender.com/obits/FDD14F00-0497-4C6A-835314AB7D425C2A.jpg" /> Gary Lynn Cooperider, 72, passed away at 10:36 am on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Barnes&ndash;Jewish Hospital. He was born on August 13, 1953, the son of the late Erma (Wintjen) Cooperider. He married the former Debbie Morgan on April 30, 1981, in Wood River, and she preceded him in death on May 2, 2011. 
Survivors include two daughters and a son in law: Erica and Jason Riedisser of Rosewood Heights, Morgan Cooperider of Bonita Springs, Florida, two grandsons: Ethan Riedisser, Cooper Rider Riedisser, his longtime companion: Gina Miller of Auburn, Illinois, and many other extended family and friends. 
Gary was employed at Olin Winchester for over thirty-five years and retired on August 31, 2015. He loved camping, travelling, sports, going to games, gardening, and spending time with his family, especially his grandson: Cooper.

Born Sept. 14, 1944 in Decatur, IL, she was a daughter of Roy W. and Lorena M. (Kefauver) Benvenuto. 
Phyllis earned her Master&rsquo;s degree in education from SIU and taught for many years in the East Alton School District # 13. She enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, especially St. Louis Cardinal baseball. She was a longtime member of Rosewood Heights General Baptist Church. 
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; her dear friends, Cheryl and Vernon LeClaire of Alton; and helpful neighbors, Todd and Alice Northway. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Linda Cannon, and her brother, Charles &ldquo;Benny&rdquo; Benvenuto. 
Visitation will be Thursday, June 11 at Paynic Home for Funerals from noon until services begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

She married William J. Boyd May 3, 1997. He preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 2024. 
A graduate of Civic Memorial High School, Vanessa loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed growing beautiful flowers in her garden. 
She is survived by two daughters, Adair (Eric) Graham of Alton and Jasmine (Cory) Wilkinson of Shiloh; 4 grandchildren, Oliver, Lyla and Jaycee Wilkinson and Sophia Graham; a sister, Patricia (Ross) Huff of Alhambra; a brother, Art (Kimberly) Garland of Nokomis; three nephews, Adam (Sarah) Huff of Wood River, Philip (Gina) Huff of Hamel, and Nate (Hannah) Garland of Coffeen; Several great nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Lilley-Jo.

He is survived by three daughters, Kimberly Thielman, Sabrina Thielman and Casondra Thielman; two grandchildren, BrayLynn and Bentley two brothers, Bruce, Thielman and Robert Bergson and a sister, Valerie Velasco. 
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Christine Thielman.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="https://static.riverbender.com/obits/630C7BC0-5527-4E5C-B6C7A7B5AB8E3F8C.jpg" /> Mary &ldquo;Susie&rdquo; Bensman-Logsdon 
Sadly, Susie left us on April 2, 2026 at the age of 75. 
She was the second child of L. Bernard and Helen E. Bensman. She was fortunate to grow up with four siblings, three of whom survive her; Connie Bond, Jim (Claire) Bensman, Jeff (Peggy) Bensman, sister-in-law Ann Bensman and an &ldquo;adopted&rdquo; sister Sheila Segraves. Her brother Andy Bensman and brother-in-law Bob Bond preceded her in death. She also had cousins and nieces and nephews who she loved. 
Susie is also survived by her son, Chris Logsdon and his partner Yvonne Daniels. She always felt Chris was a blessing and loved him dearly. 
Susie was deeply artistic in both painting and crafts, and her creativity also shone in the gardens she designed and tended. She was happiest when creating or planting. 
She had many friends who will miss her dearly including a wonderful circle of &ldquo;Girl Friends&rdquo; that she had known and laughed with for many years.

Born on July 16, 1950, in Alton, Illinois, Jim was the son of the late Freamon Warren and Evelyn Nelson. He lived a life centered around family, hard work, and the things he loved most. On February 21, 1975, he married Diane Kay Lemon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wood River. Together they shared 44 years of marriage, raising their family, and creating a lifetime of memories before her passing in 2019. 
Jim spent many years working at Olin Brass, where he was known for being dependable, hardworking, and dedicated to his work. After retirement, he continued to stay active by driving a school bus, a role he genuinely enjoyed because it allowed him to connect with the community and the students he saw each day.

She was born on April 4, 1938, in West Frankfort, Illinois, the daughter of the late Albert and Juanita (Morgan) Dossett. 
Sondra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Holmes &ldquo;Tex&rdquo; Jones, who passed away on February 10, 2000. Together they shared many wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories. They especially enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Piedmont, Missouri, where they loved fishing, boating, and making memories on Clearwater Lake. 
A devoted woman of faith, Sondra was a longtime member of Unity Baptist Church in Granite City. She cherished her church family and found great joy in serving her Lord. She enjoyed participating in Sunday School, helping with the children's ministry, and sharing her kindness and faith with those around her.

Matt was an extremely loving son, brother, and grandson. He was a wonderful caregiver for his Grandpa J.L. and loved fishing with his Grandpa Isaac. Matt was also a very protective brother. He will be greatly missed. 
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lisa Kupihea, Isaac Kupihea, Joe &ldquo;J.L.&rdquo; Randolph, Lillian Randolph, and Doris Lang.

He was born Sept. 14, 1947 in Granite City, IL to the late Richard H. and Evelyn Jo (Yelton) Ervay. 
On Dec. 31, 1981, he and the former Patricia L. &ldquo;Pat&rdquo; Rushing were married in Granite City. She survives. 
Kerry was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, serving from 1966 to 1968. Upon his return from service, he became an electrician and worked for 20 years with the IBEW and 20 years for Granite City Steel. He was a member of the Shriners Ainad Temple in East St. Louis and a Mason with Masonic Lodge #877 in Granite City. 
In addition to his wife of almost 45 years, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Cale) Clements of Granite City, 2 sons, Mark (Missy) Kress of Edwardsville, IL and Brad Ervay of Granite City and 3 grandchildren, Toby Clements, Zachary Clements and Evan Ervay.

Dick was the son of Norbert John and Nancy Hughes Schindler. Dick was born at Our Saviour&rsquo;s Hospital in Jacksonville. 
He attended Our Saviour&rsquo;s Grade School, Jonathan Turner Jr. High School and Routt Catholic High School, graduating with the class of 1965. Dick was involved in Boy Scouts and developed a passion for the outdoors; spending many days camping, fishing, hiking and hunting with his father, brother and son. Dick enlisted in the United States Army, spending his tour in Wiesbaden, Germany. When he finished his service, he returned to Jacksonville and then attended Southern Illinois University Vocational Technical Institute (VTI) in Carterville, IL. He studied and specialized in graphic art design.

She worked as a secretary for an insurance agent at State Farm & loved spending time with family & her chihuahuas.

<description><![CDATA[<img src="https://static.riverbender.com/obits/E0F00C90-935B-4682-B9D0EDB6DD3B5AF5.jpg" /> Marsha Ann Senger, 83, died at 1:00 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2026 at her home in Grafton. 
Born February 13, 1943, in Alton, Illinois, Marsha was one of four children born to the late Robert and Opal (Gladstone) Miller. 
Raised in Grafton, she spent many years working at the Grafton Post Office as the Post Master. Marsha was also the treasurer of Grafton United Methodist Church, a big Elvis Presely fan and enjoyed going to Grafton music in the park. 
On September 26,1961 she married William Herman &ldquo;Bill&rdquo; Senger at the Ninth Street Presbyterian Church in Alton. Together they started the family business of Senger Gas Company in Grafton. Bill passed away December 27, 2020.

She was a member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church and a member of Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary - Highland, IL. 
Following her high school graduation, Ruth balanced her career and home life with grace, working at Highland Box Board, Koch Cleaner's, and finally as a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Brown in Highland, as well as dedicating herself as a homemaker.

Bob married Patricia Sue &ldquo;Pat&rdquo; (Bates) Reid on April 26, 1969 in Litchfield, IL. She preceded him in death on September 11, 2021. 
He was a retired air compressor sales rep. Bob enjoyed fishing. 
He is survived by his sons, James R. "Jim" (Lisa) Reid of Shipman, IL, Gerald "Jerry" (Jodie) Reid of Wilsonville, IL, grandchildren, Kyle (Sidney) Reid, Tyler Reid, Ryan Reid (Bailey Dykes), Cara (C.J.) She was born and raised on the west side of Tulsa and attended Daniel Webster High School, where she was president of her Senior Class. She was known by those who loved her as someone full of heart, strength, and deep devotion to her family. 
Anita joined the United States Air Force in 1987 and went on to earn her master&rsquo;s law degree from St. Louis University. She was adjunct professor at McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill., and assisted with training law students at Southern Illinois University (SIUE), in Edwardsville, Ill. 
During her years of military service, she worked in Human Resource Administration, serving at the Pentagon as an assistant to high-level executives and dignitaries. Patsy married James Joseph Caffery on August 27, 1965, in Bethalto and he preceded her in death on May 28, 2024. 
Patsy enjoyed crocheting, diamond art, sewing clothes, and most any type of crafting. She loved going camping. Patsy will be remembered for her love of singing. She took great joy in raising her children. Patsy returned to the work force after they grew up and worked as a CNA at Alton Memorial Hospital and St. Anthony's Health Care for many years.

She was a graduate of Jerseyville High School in 1951. On March 22, 1952, she met the love of her life, and on July 26, 1953, she and John J. Niehaus were united in marriage and lived the majority of their married life in Rosewood Heights. To that union, three children were born and all are left to mourn her: son, John H. Niehaus of Mt. Ray&mdash;as he was affectionately known to his loved ones&mdash;was born on June 9, 1943, in Ardeola, Missouri, to Bessie Lee Roy and D. H. Garrett. From an early age, he developed the strong work ethic, determination, and particular craftsmanship that would define his life. 
On July 9, 1962, he married Janet Ruckman in Meadowbrook, Illinois. Their marriage was a remarkable partnership that spanned nearly 64 years and was built on love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to family. 
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966 and later served in the Air Force Reserves from 1966 to 1968. <description><![CDATA[<img src="https://static.riverbender.com/obits/E55FF9F1-CD39-4F94-9459832F89CD7191.jpg" /> Jerry Wayne Moore, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday, June 4, 2026 at his home in Fairview Heights, IL after a long battle with cancer. 
Jerry was born Tuesday, April 22, 1941 in Corinth, MS to Cecil and Alta Moore. He had a long and varied career that saw him travel abroad and across the country. He spent four years as a navigator on B-50 planes in the Air Force. After leaving the service, he worked in network computer infrastructure for IBM and helped install the fiber optic network for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He later sold insurance and in retirement drove a bus for the O&rsquo;Fallon school district. In all endeavours, he was an expert connector of people and ideas who used laughter to build networks. 
Jerry could always be found working with his hands and loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was a longtime soccer referee at the amateur and professional level, even refereeing international FIFA matches. Richard retired after 39 years from Olin Brass and after retirement enjoyed living in Fort Myers, FL for the last 26 years. He was married to Elaine Brown and she survives. 
Also surviving are two children, Sharon Voss and Steven Wilken, three grandsons, three great granddaughters and one great grandson.

Jim always valued work, and at the age of 9 he began his first of many jobs when he became a newspaper delivery boy, operating what was then the largest newspaper route in the city. Before attending college, he held the positions of golf caddy, construction worker, factory worker, and driver of a beer truck that delivered to bars and restaurants in his hometown of Mansfield. He attended Mansfield High School where he participated in his great passion for sports by playing on the football and golf teams. Jim also played football in college at Ohio Wesleyan University. Football, and particularly golf, became major interests throughout his life. He married the love of his life Kathryn Pflueger on July 30, 1994, in St. Louis, MO at the Botanical Gardens. 
Terry proudly served his country in the Air Force and the Army. He was a Chief Warrant Officer (CW4) in the CID Division. He served in Vietnam, Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Afghanistan and Iraq, providing protective services for many military dignitaries. He visited 82 countries in his military career. Terry also served his community as a police officer for many years. He refereed high school football, basketball, baseball, and softball. He was an avid fan of all sports, especially football. Marion retired as a department manager for Sears and Roebuck at Northwest Plaza. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. 
?On September 13, 1957 he married the former Norma Thompson in Fosterburg, IL. She preceded him in death. 
Surviving is a daughter, Barb Fisk (Jim) of Brighton and a son, Lynn Paul (Julie) of Godfrey, three grandchildren: Erika Paul of Dallas, Trevor Paul (AnnaSophia) of New York City, and Hannah (Lucas) Williams of New York City, two step grandchildren: Stacie Perigo (Kevin) of Mitchell, and Jamie Fisk of Granite City, one great grandchild: June Jacqueline Williams of New York City and two step great grandchildren: Taylor Oehlecker of Granite City, Hannah and Kaitlynn Perigo of Mitchell.

A man of unwavering faith, strong character, and boundless kindness, Ken lived a life defined by service to God, devotion to family, and dedication to his community. 
Born on November 26, 1928, in Olympia, Washington, Ken was the son of the late Charles Elmer and Mildred Beatrice (Ward) Lewis. From an early age, he developed the strong work ethic and integrity that would become hallmarks of his life. 
Ken proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army, carrying the values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his lifetime. On August 26, 1961, he married the love of his life, Patsy House, in St. Louis, Missouri. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, faith, and family until Patsy&rsquo;s passing in 2008. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1996. 
For more than 50 years, Jean dedicated herself to a career in real estate, a profession that perfectly matched her outgoing personality and love of people. He was born on December 9, 1934 in Quincy, IL to Loren and Iva (Carpenter) Corrigan. 
He attended Abundant Life Church in Godfrey, IL. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of Alton VFW Post 1308, where he tended bar for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, and was an avid painter, generously sharing his work with others. 
He is survived by his children, Dennis Corrigan of Alton, IL, Kelly Brooke of Wood River, IL, and Kevin Corrigan of Caseyville, IL; sister, Martha Cannedy of Godfrey, IL; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents and two children, Shannon Corrigan and Michael Corrigan. 
Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey is assisting the family with final wishes and no services will be held at this time.

Mr. Munden was a United States Army Veteran and proud recipient of the Purple Heart. Bill later worked as an auditor for the Office of Inspector General of the United States Department of Defense before retirement. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading the Bible. Bill was a St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and a Pittsburgh Steeler football fan. He also enjoyed American History and Military History.

Donna married Richard Gusewelle on June 12, 1965 spending over 60 years together. He survives. 
Donna loved the Lord with all her heart. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she found great joy in spending time in prayer, journaling about her relationship with God, and worshiping as a devoted member of New Hope Church. 
Above all else, Donna cherished her family. Her children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. She treasured every moment spent together, creating countless memories filled with laughter, love, and good times. Whether gathered for special occasions or simply enjoying each other's company, family time was always her favorite.

Ray left an impact on his family and friends with his inquisitive mind and sense of humor. He was always up for a debate on any subject with his friends and &ldquo;outlaws&rdquo; as he lovingly called his brothers and sisters in law. His love of baseball began at an early age; playing throughout high school and leagues after college until a bum knee forced him to follow the St Louis Cardinals from the comfort of the stands. He enjoyed attending hockey and football games and Muni Musicals. He took great joy and pride intending to his rhododendrons and azalea bushes and maintaining his landscape to perfection.

For many people he will always be our Bud, Uncle Bud, Quon, or SG. Born in St. Louis, MO to Dorice and George Howard, the baby brother of four siblings to his parents, and he was everyone&rsquo;s favorite, especially his mother. 
At age 40, just a few months ago, his beautiful wife, Chi, ensured that he had a joyful birthday celebration, filled with great food, friends, and family. Bud/Uncle Bud/Quon/SG has lived his life to the fullest. As a child, his siblings can attest to his ingenuity, curiosity, and unique ways to make people laugh out loud. Many of Quon&rsquo;s gestures occurred at Normandy Senior High School, where he graduated in 2004. Born in Alton on December 6, 1947, he was the first of 15 children born to James B. and Guida M. (Gilbert) Ryan. 
Pat graduated in 1965 from Carlinville High School, attended St. Louis University, and was a sergeant in the US Air Force. Before retirement he was employed at St. John&rsquo;s Mercy Hospital, and later at Johnson Controls where he utilized his knowledge of engineering and electronics. 
Pat was devoted to his family and will be remembered for his giving nature, wisdom, and wit. He possessed many skills and was always eager to lend a hand. He enjoyed large family gatherings and indulged everyone with treats that included the latest games and music. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Robert Ryan and Paul Ryan, and 3 sisters: Marie (John) Schulz, Marjorie Poyner, and Patricia (Jerald) Tolle.
