The Avenue of Flags fly in the Upper Alton City Cemetery on Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, and the 4th of July. The 144 flags that fly are in honor of those in the service that we have lost and each flag has a memorial inscription.
Lovejoy Day took place at noon Friday, Nov. 9, at the Lovejoy Monument in Alton City Cemetery. The program included the presentation of colors, a vocal selection, a proclamation by Alton's mayor, a performance by members of Alton Little Theater, and more.
Local artists donated hundreds of hand-crafted ceramic bowls and many restaurants donated their specialty soups.
