Wm. Lahr

Wm. Preston Lahr, 64, passed away at 11:06 pm on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. 

He was born on September 8, 1947 in Jerseyville, IL, the son of Glenn W. and Edith P. (Pearce) Lahr.

He married Barbara L. Hamby on March 21, 1983 in Las Vegas, NV.  She survives. 

Preston graduated from Jerseyville High School.  He served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a farmer in Shipman, Illinois for over 30 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Piasa Methodist Church.  He enjoyed farming, playing cards with his family and friends and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Amanda and Jeremy Yates of Moro and Katie Lahr and her fiancé, Christian Mayberry of Bethalto; a granddaughter, Kaylie Yates of Moro; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Herb Graham of Arizona, Virginia and Frank Rothe of Jerseyville and Melinda and Danny Kruse of Alton;  a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Jean Lahr of Medora; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wilma and Bob Lucker; his brother-in-law, Larry Hamby of California; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Cathy and Bill Clark of Bethalto and Christine Stahl of Alton and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.   

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Bill Hamby and a brother-in-law, David Hamby.   

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon at the church on Friday, September 7, 2012 with Pastor Erik Scottberg officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military rites given by Alton VFW Post 1308. 

Memorials may be made to the family.
