Wilma Jones

It is with great sorrow that the family of Wilma Jones announces her passing. She passed peacefully with her niece Tina or Sadie as she often called her by her side at the home of her sister Ruth Ann on October 11, 2024, at 8:30 p.m. Wilma was born in Pomona, Ill. on April 6, 1931, to Elta and Elsie Jones. Though she never had children of her own, she was a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews. She joined Bethel Chapel Church in West Granite City when she was just child. Her faith in God shone brightly throughout her life. She was the voice of reason, compassion and understanding. She had just finished the 8th grade when someone asked her if she was ready to go to work. She told us, “Well I hadn’t even thought of that, but why not!” So, at 15 she went to work at Speilbergs Handbag Company in St. Louis, Mo. She continued her working career at Geton grocery in Granite City, Shermers in Madison, Illinois, McKesson in St. Louis, Mo., before finishing her working years at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City, retiring as a laundry attendant. For a woman born in 1931 during the Depression, she was a very independent person. She always believed joining Bethel Chapel Church as a child was what helped her most in her life. Her faith in God never wavered. When they were all just children, she was baptized in the slough with Brother Eulie B. "Cooter" Rich and Sister Velva Belt. From this moment on, she truly believed God walked beside her. She may have been a tiny woman, but the impact she had on her lives was enormous. She will always be in our hearts and when we need her most, she will be a quiet voice reassuring us to remain steadfast in our faith and everything will be alright.

Preceding her in death and waiting joyously to greet her were her parents, her brothers and their spouses, Gerald and Daisy Jones and their son Gerald Wayne Jones, Donald and Jo Ann Jones and their son and his spouse, Dennis Ray and Chis Jones, Bill Jones, and Bobby who died in infancy. Her brother-in-law, Herbert Rasche and his sons Brian, Herb, Bobby and David Roberson.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Ann Rasche of Dorsey; her niece who was like a daughter, Tina Roberson, of Dorsey; her niece, Dana and David Eckhardt and their children Kristi Harper and daughter, Edie Harper of Edwardsville and Samuel Eckhardt of Worden; her niece, Kim (Todd) Johnson, and Wade Whitford of California. Her brother, Donnie's children, Dara Pieri, David Jones, Dennessa Brooks, Donnie Jones and Darin Jones.
