William F. Sunderland, 78, of Bethalto, Illinois, peacefully passed away at 6:25 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024.
He was born on January 18, 1946, in Alton, Illinois, the son of the late William F. Sunderland and Sheila Mae Ribbeck.
William married Joyce Scott on December 8, 1979, in Alton, Illinois.
A graduate of Alton High School, William went on to serve proudly in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He later worked as an aerospace engineer consultant for Sunderland & Associates. He was also a member of the Bethalto American Legion Post 214. William had a passion for working on cars, a hobby that brought him much joy throughout his life.
William is survived by his wife, Joyce, and their children: Heather (Erick) Perez of Missouri, Michael Sunderland of Alton, Illinois, Kim (Juan) Torres of Texas, and son-in-law Danny Greenlee of Wood River, Illinois. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Isabella Greenlee, Gabrielle Greenlee, Eric Sunderland, and Brandon Yon; two great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Yon and Adam Yon; three brothers: Jim Sunderland, Steve Sunderland, and Gerald “Butch” (Julie) Sunderland; as well as many extended family members and friends.
Inurnment will be private at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
