William “Buzz” Smith II, 76, passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born July 3, 1948 in Trieste, Italy the son of the late Sherman and Vera Marie (Schiavone) Smith.
Buzz served in the U.S. Army, was a member of House of Victory Church, he served with honor in the IOOF for 50 years and worked for many years as a cryogenic operator for Air Product and Chemical in Granite City.
Survived by his wife, Kathryn (Ruby) Smith, whom he married on February 25, 1972. Also surviving are two daughters, Marie Andrus (Leonard “Bennie”) of Godfrey and Amy Jun (Chris) of Godfrey, five grandchildren, Marc, Mackenzie, Thomas, Audrey and Ethan, four great grandchildren, Kent, Montana, Amara and Lexi, one brother, Sherman Smith III (Vickie) of Shiloh, IL and one sister, Charmaine Smith-Warden of Idaho.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where an Odd Fellows Fraternity service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
The burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with full military honors. Pastor Timothy Naylor will officiate.
