William Clyde Linebarger, Jr., 68, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at his residence. He was born on June 2, 1957, in Alton, the son of the late William C. and Alberta L. (Osborn) Linebarger, Sr.
Survivors include three sisters: Sylvia Johnson of Florissant, Missouri, Mary Wheeler of Worden, Linda Linebarger of Florissant, Missouri, a niece and her fiancé: Laura Wheeler and fiancé: Justin Conley, two nephews and their wives: Aaron and Casey Linebarger, John and Cristie Scanio, three great nieces: Trinity, Zaden, and Journey Linebarger, one great nephew, one cousin: Rhonda Gravemann, and many other extended family and friends.
A life of service, dedication, and love is the legacy of William "Bill" Linebarger. Following the path laid by his late father, Bill embraced a calling to serve both his country and his community. Sergeant Linebarger served in The United States Army both Active Duty and Reserve, also serving in Operation Desert Storm. Bill was a skilled laborer with Laborer’s Local 218 for over thirty years, the same Local as his father.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing pool, chess, darts, and supporting the Raiders. He was also a member of the Owls Club and the Alton VFW Post 1308. Bill was a corner stone for family, providing encouragement, support, love, and endless laughter. Although we part with sorrow, know we will meet again in heaven.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Carol Linebarger.
Graveside services will be held on Monday August 11th at 12:30am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
