William Knapp

William N. Knapp, 93, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 12:44 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Longevity of Granite City. He was born on August 12, 1932, in Granite City, the son of the late Arthur and Ruth (George) Knapp.

On August 11, 1956, in Granite City, he married Thelma Rella (Rudnicki) Knapp, who preceded him in death on April 7, 2025. Bill retired from the United Steelworkers Local #1063 and the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local #8 of Illinois after many years of dedicated service at Granite City Steel as a bricklayer. He was a faithful member of Tri City Assembly of God Church, where he also served on the Board of Deacons.

Bill enjoyed fishing and took great satisfaction in cutting and stacking wood. He is survived by his son, William V. Knapp of Granite City; his daughter-in-law, Judith A. Knapp of Granite City; his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Carol Crick of Edwardsville; his sisters-in-law Carol Cooper of Granite City and Sue Knapp of Staunton; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Alan Knapp; his father- and mother-in-law, Joseph and Elma Rudnicki; his siblings, Gene Knapp, Dan Knapp, Marie Stein, and Carolyn Knapp; and his brother-in-law, Dennis Ray Cooper.

A visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel in Granite City from 10:30 am until 11:30 am on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. A private burial with full military honors will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
