Wesley Sanders

Wesley L. ‘Wes” Sanders, 83, passed away 1:47 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 10, 1941, in Alton, the son of the late Jesse and Hazel (Knight) Sanders.

He married Anita Ennis Reeve on August 27, 1987, in Bethalto, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Wes is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Kelly Duval of Hardin, Kentucky, Lisa and Mike Denny of East Alton, three sons and a daughter-in-law: Wayne Sanders of East Alton, Billy Sanders of Bethalto, Jason and Jennifer Sanders of Hillsboro, Missouri, several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law: Mike Hanlon of Hardin, Kentucky, and many other extended family and friends.

Wes was marine surveyor at Cairo Marine Service for many years prior to going to work at Riverway Company where he was a manager for 23 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he served during Vietnam. He then served in the United States Navy where he was a Seabee. He was a member of the Godfrey Church of the Nazarene.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Betty Jo Jacobs, Diane Wilson, LaVonne Hanlon, and a brother: James Sanders.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Full military honors will be conducted by the Ritual Team of VFW Post 1308 of Alton at 3 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Godfrey Church of the Nazarene or to any No Kill Shelter will be accepted at the funeral home.
