Walter Moore

Walter Ray (Dub) Moore, 94, passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2026 when God chose to give him his wings on his birthday. He was born in Monroe, Arkansas on May 19, 1932 to the late Herbert and Ogle Moore.

He married Marilyn Voumard on November 11, 1955. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on July 10, 2024.

He served in the army. Dub was a great musician and played for years around the local area. He even got the chance to play at the Grand Ole Opry. After working in different automotive shops around the area, he then opened a machine shop in East Alton. He was so well liked by all his customers that some would bring him pies, watermelons, fruit baskets etc. because they appreciated his honest work ethic. He would even help those in need when they couldn’t afford to pay much. Dub loved to hunt, fish and play cards. He and Marilyn, their children and grandchildren spent many summers and hunting trips at their cabin in Hardin, IL. Later in life, Dub could be found outside tinkering in the yard with a tool or his garden or in his chair in the dining room watching a Cardinals baseball game or a Nascar race. Dub was the definition of classic and proved that through his 94 years here.

He is survived by 5 children. Ray (Lois) Moore, Pam (Duray) Conrad both of Indiana, Terry (Sherry) Moore of Bunker Hill, Kevin Moore (Jennifer) of Alton, Jimmy Moore (Dede) of Alton, Janice Moore-Peters of Alton. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren. Michael Moore (Keri), Timothy Moore, Nicole Moore (Shawn), Hannah Moore, Abby Moore (Marie), Brad Moore (Julie), Kimberly (Corey) Schetter, Bethany Hunter, Aprile Kerr, Brian (Lori) Moore and Greg (Alicia) Moore. 18 great grandchildren as well as his loving furry friend, his cat Coonie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant daughter Melody Ann, his two brothers, Rudolph (Rudy) and Leon (Lonnie) Moore, two grandsons, Nathan and Daniel Wigginton and daughter-in-law Loretta (Zippy) Moore.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Pastor Tom Olney will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorial Donations can be made to the Faith Baptist Church in Godfrey.
