Victor "Vic" W. Unterbrink Jr., 85, of Bethalto, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Alton Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Moro, IL, on November 21, 1939, the son of Victor F. and Dorothy (Krome) Unterbrink. He married Judith A. “Judy” Brown in Midway, IL, on September 9, 1961, and she survives.
Vic served six years in the Army Reserves. He retired in 2004 from Albrecht Hamlin Chevrolet after 40 years in the parts department.
Vic was a lifetime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Midway, where he served on the Church Council multiple times and was a member of the men's Brotherhood. He loved farming, gardening, fishing, attending St. Louis Cardinals games, and collecting toy tractors, but most of all, he cherished his time spent with his friends and family.
Along with his wife, Judy, he is survived by two children, Sherry (Jim) Scott of Moro and Jeff (Dawn) Unterbrink of Elkmont, AL; siblings, Janette Bolin of Chatham, IL, Joyce (Bob) Kruckeberg of Waxahachie, TX, and Steve (Barb) Unterbrink of Moro; grandchildren, Jason (Camille) Scott, Meghan (James) Hayes, Jacob Unterbrink, and Kyle Unterbrink; great-grandchildren, Carmen Scott and Bryan Scott II; and step-grandchildren, Kayla, Brandon, Clayton, Abbi, and Justin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mike; and a grandson, Bryan Scott.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., at St. John's United Church in Midway. Pastor Lori Schafer will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army.
