Thomas Tebeau

Thomas Sidney Tebeau, 78, of Freeburg, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at his home with his family at his side.

Mr. Tebeau was born on August 10, 1946, to Irvin Joseph and Mary Jane, nee Hafner, Tebeau.

Mr. Tebeau was originally from Florissant, MO, where he graduated from McCluer High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree and his Master of Business Administration from Fontbonne College.

Tom enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for two years spending 13 months in Vietnam. After his service, he returned to Florissant and started as a laborer at McDonnell Douglas. Tom worked his way up to the position of manager overseeing the machine shop at Boeing. After his retirement from Boeing, he decided to go back to work and worked another six years at the St. Louis Gateway Arch as a mechanic - a job he really enjoyed.

Tom moved to Freeburg when he met and married his wife, Donna. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church and also a member and past president of the St. Joseph's Men's Club.

Tom was able to fix anything and everything. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage and working out in the yard. He also loved following the sporting events and dance competitions of his grandkids.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth Tebeau; a brother-in-law, Angelo Merlo; and sister-in-law, Shirley Tebeau. He also was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Don and Dorothy Billhartz and a brother-in-law, Dale Billhartz.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Donna, née Billhartz (Travous) Tebeau, two stepsons, Daniel (Courtney) Travous and Darren (Shana) Travous; three grandchildren, Dean, Grace, and Savannah (Alex) Travous; seven siblings, Joseph (Carol) Tebeau, Marilyn Merlo, Jim Tebeau, Dennis (Teresa) Tebeau, Mary Jo Davies, Jackie (Jim) Thornton, and Lisa (Rick) Hampton; brother and sister-in-law, Dean Billhartz and Denise (Don) Byrd, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended relatives.

He will also be missed by numerous friends and neighbors.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Illinois for all the special care and concern they showed for Tom.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 10 to 12 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Church, Freeburg, IL.

Funeral: A memorial mass with military honors will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Church, Freeburg, IL.

Burial of cremated remains will be held at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL, at a later date.
