Theodore Harvey

Theodore Richard Harvey, Jr., 82, of Belleville, Illinois, passed away on March 27, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Ted was born in Marfa, Texas, and spent his early years wherever his father’s military assignments took the family, including time in Japan, Hawaii, and Virginia. With a move to Illinois, he attended Belleville Township High School, where he excelled academically and played both basketball and baseball.

In college at the University of Illinois, Ted majored in Political Science and French. He played varsity baseball on a Big Ten championship team. He earned many awards as a scholar-athlete, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1965. He continued his education at the University of Illinois College of Law, graduating with honors and being elected to the Order of the Coif, which recognizes exceptional academic achievement.

Following law school, Ted returned to Belleville and built a distinguished legal career spanning more than five decades. In recognition of his outstanding work, high ethical standards, and excellence in advocacy, he was named a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Ted was kind, a friend to all, and ever the optimist. He had a sharp mind and a sharper wit. He loved the Cardinals and the Fighting Illini, thoroughbred horse racing, singing along to Linda Ronstadt, a good martini, and exploring the world with family and friends. Above all, he dearly loved and cherished his family.
