Suzanne “Suzie” Weiss, dedicated nurse and animal lover, passed away on May 22, 2026, at Evercare of Edwardsville, IL. She was 84 years old. Born in Granite City, IL, on October 24, 1941, Suzie was the daughter of the late Ignace and Ethel Weiss. She was raised in Madison IL, where she resided most of her life. In 2015, she moved to Faith Countryside Homes in Highland IL.
Medicine was Suzie’s passion. After graduating from Madison High School and Jewish Hospital School of Nursing, she worked as a nurse in the Maternity and Intensive Care Units of Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Granite City. She also was employed by Vaughn Home Health Care Metro East.
A life-long dog lover, Suzie babysat neighborhood dogs and doted on her late dog, Daisy. Suzie’s hobbies included crocheting, constructing puzzles and visiting with neighbors and friends.
Aside from her parents, Suzie was preceded in death by her sister Mildred Ruth (John) Meehan and her brother Jerome (Genevieve) Weiss. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Michael (Lynn) Meehan, Michelle (Mark) Schrader, Melanie Meehan, David (Carol) Weiss, Greg (Tammy) Weiss, cousin, Marcia Lilienthal (Steve) Kohler, and several great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 1 pm on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3825 Blackburn Road, Edwardsville, IL, with Memorial services immediately following at 2 pm. A private burial will be later in Highland, IL.
The family appreciates the kindness of the brothers and sisters at Kingdom Hall, the nurses, CNAs and staff at Evercare in Edwardsville, and the nurses and staff of Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Services will be provided by Spengel-Boulanger in Highland IL. Donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
