Suzanne Adele Newman, age 90, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Aspen Creek Assisted Living in Troy, Illinois, surrounded by the love and presence of her devoted family.
Born on September 1, 1935, in Belleville, Illinois, Suzanne was the cherished daughter of the late John E. and Ida M. (Starr) Proffitt. From an early age, she carried within her a deep love for family, faith, and community—qualities that would define her beautiful life.
On June 27, 1953, at Chapel 1 at Scott Air Force Base, Suzanne married William “Bill” Newman, the love of her life and her steadfast partner for seventy-two remarkable years. Their marriage was a shining example of devotion, commitment, and enduring love—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew them.
Suzanne was a faithful and devoted member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Glen Carbon. Her faith guided her life and was reflected in her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to others. She embraced her role as a homemaker with pride and joy, creating a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter, love, and the irresistible aroma of her wonderful cooking. Her kitchen was the heart of countless family gatherings, and her meals were made not only with skill, but with deep affection.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—tending to her flower gardens, watching birds, and caring for animals, all of which held a special place in her heart. Suzanne was also deeply devoted to her community. She was instrumental in the building of the covered bridge in Glen Carbon and in the restoration of the Yanda Log Cabin, generously donating many of her own treasured antiques to help preserve local history. Her dedication extended to her active involvement with the Glen Carbon Senior Center and the town’s Centennial Celebration, where her enthusiasm and civic pride were evident to all.
Above all, Suzanne’s greatest joy was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her love was boundless, her guidance steady, and her presence a constant source of comfort and strength. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, warmth, and unconditional love.
In addition to her parents, Suzanne was preceded in death by her beloved daughter-in-law, Sandy Parker.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Newman of Glen Carbon, Illinois; her loving children, John (Sandy) Newman of Oakville, Missouri; William (Karin) Newman of Cabot, Arkansas; Harold (Mary) Newman of Gillespie, Illinois; Robert Newman (Sandy Parker) of South Roxanna, Illinois; and Patricia (Bart) Douglas of Pocahontas, Illinois. She was a proud and adoring grandmother to Beth (Dave), Kenny (Lisa), Lori (Ron), Julie (Ben), Katie (Chris), Elise (Derek), Victoria, Sean (Tara), and Sarah, as well as many treasured great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind extended family and countless dear friends whose lives were blessed by knowing her.
