Stephen Alan Hobbs, 74, died at 1:11 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2023 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born July 12, 1949 in East St. Louis, IL, he was the son of Eugene L. and Pauline E. (Houston) Hobbs. Mr. Hobbs worked as a switchman for a railroad company and also as an air traffic controller. He was a union organizer for hotel and restaurant employees and was the owner/operator of Wood River Donut for 32 years. He was a member of Free Masons for 18 years and enjoyed spending time on his boat at Harbor Point Yacht Club. Steve enjoyed entertaining his family and friends with numerous trips up and down the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. He especially enjoyed Wednesday Book Club with his very dear friends, Roger, Bob and Ed. He married Sharon Lee Snow on October 6, 1968 in Collinsville, IL. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Steve Hobbs Jr. of Alton, and Scott Hobbs (Deanna) of Alton, one grandchild, Darby Oliva Hobbs, a brother David Hobbs (Mary Ann) of Glen Carbon and a sister, Vickie Sheridan (Wayne) of St. Charles, MO. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Hobbs. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Belleville.
