Shirley Ross

Shirley A. Ross, 79, died at 6:33 p.m., Monday, November 11, 2024, at Jerseyville Community Hospital. She was born on January 3, 1945, in Alton, the daughter of the late Edward Allsman and Eva (Besterfeldt) Stark.

She worked as a cashier for the Wood River Walmart. She enjoyed fishing, crafts and sewing, and spending time with her family. Surviving are her sons and daughters, Lee Allsman (Carolyn), Steve Allsman (Jimmy Sanders), Libby Franke (Robert) and Amy Tinnon (Larry), three sisters, Helen Hendrix (Neal), Esther Novack (Paul) and Mary Hendrix (Donald), two sisters-in-law, Cathy Allsman and Linda Allsman, step brothers and step sisters, Marinetta Alexander, Ed Allsman, Ronnie Cobine, Bruce Cobine, Barb Raya and Debbie Cope, grandchildren, Stephanie Yager, Zachary Franke, Cami Sanders and Caylin Bick, great grandchildren, Brodie Smith, Beau Yager, Whitlee Yager, Caylee Rhodes, Joseph Vassar, Carson Vassar, Cashton Vassar and Ronnie Bick.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harold Allsman and Harry Allsman.  Visitation will be Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service. Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. at the Gent Funeral Home in Alton.  Burial will be in the Upper Alton Cemetery.
