Samuel Palmer

Samuel J. Palmer, 84, of Gillespie, IL, passed away at Arc at Sangamon Valley on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. He was born September 8, 1941, in Gillespie, IL to Charles Palmer & Myrna Cleeton Palmer.  Sam was a lifelong resident of Gillespie and a graduate of Gillespie High School.

He worked in Gillespie as a meat cutter for Wellers Grocery, Wilsons and Randy's Grocery until he retired in September of 2006.  He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Bivin, brother, Richard Palmer and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Albert Palmer, seven sisters, Eva Palmer, Lena Hampton, Gloria Moyer, Bernice Thomas, Pauline Coatney, Arline Hopper and Dorothy Hubbard.  Sam enjoyed sitting on his patio with his neighbors and friends, feeding the birds and squirrels in his yard and watching old movies and ball games on TV.  

He was an avid Dodgers fan.  Visitation will be on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm.  Funeral services are Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie with Art Roemer officiating.  

Burial will be at Gillespie Cemetery, Gillespie, IL.  Memorials are suggested to Gillespie Benld Area Ambulance Service, 208 Charles St., Gillespie, IL 62033.  Anyone wishing to send an online condolence may do so at www.kravanyafuneral.com.  Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, IL., is in charge of the arrangements.
