Roy Logan

Roy Leonard Logan Jr., 84, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, formerly of Granite City, IL., entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and treasured friend, Roy’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with faith, service, and an unshakable love for family and community.

Born in Granite City on July 30, 1941, to the late Roy Logan Sr. and Mabel (Rensing) Logan, Roy’s life was one of purpose and passion. On June 16, 1972, he married the love of his life, Linda Lybarger, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granite City—a partnership that became the cornerstone of a joyful 53-year journey together.

Roy was a proud and active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, where his generous spirit was felt in every committee he served on and every event he supported. His dedication to the parish’s beloved fish fry earned him the affectionate nickname “Mr. Fish Fry,” a title he wore with both humility and pride.

A graduate of Bradley University, where he played football, Roy carried his love for sports into his career, inspiring countless young athletes as a coach at Granite City High School. As a math teacher and guidance counselor, he didn’t just teach—he mentored, guided, and believed in his students, leaving a legacy of encouragement that will endure for generations.

Roy also found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Blessed with a green thumb, he tended his gardens with skill and care, always ready to share plants, produce, and advice with anyone who asked. Above all, his greatest joy was time spent with family—laughing, celebrating, and creating memories that will be cherished forever.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard Logan; and his granddaughter, Dakota Birdsong.

Roy is survived by his devoted wife, Linda; his loving children, Ann (Skip) Birdsong of Belleville, IL and Steve (Michaela) Logan Sr., of Kansas City, MO; his seven beloved grandchildren—Dillon, Madison, Brianna, and Tyler Birdsong, and Siena, Stephen Jr., and Sophia Logan; his dear sister-in-law, Beth Logan; as well as extended family and a wide circle of lifelong friends who will miss his warm smile, ready laugh, and generous heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, with visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a funeral mass at 12:30 p.m. officiated by Father Godwin Muhangi. Roy will be laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, honoring Roy’s unwavering faith and service.
