Rollin Welch

Rollin Ray Welch, 87, of Brighton, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at home.

He was born on March 14, 1938, in Carlinville, the son of the late Charles Rollin and Helen Grace (Fuller) Welch.

Ray volunteered to serve in the United States Army. He was a cryptographer in De Angevillers, France.

He married Mary Sanders in 1962. They had three daughters together. She passed in 1981.

Ray married Mary Louise Cauley on June 21, 1974, in Cottage Hills. The two were married for 51 years.

He retired after 30 years with General Motors Corporation. Ray was co-owner of Gentle Affects Antique Store, until selling that establishment. He then devoted more time to his hobby of woodworking, where he created his signature “Patchwork” chests; as documented in the film “Birth of an Heirloom”.

Ray is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughters Terri Hardin, Patricia Dunn, and Barbara (Ron) Bobbitt; two stepchildren Eric Stone and Angela Stone-Scoggins; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; brother David Welch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Larry and Dennis Welch; grandson Bradley Hardin.

Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton.

Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
