Robert Gene “Bob” Koenig, 82, of East Alton, Illinois and formerly of South Roxana, Illinois and Horseheads, New York passed away at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. He was born September 23, 1942, in Prairietown, Illinois, a son of the late Elmer and Vera (Hillebrand) Koenig. He retired in 2018 from Anchor Glass in Elmira Heights, New York after many years of dedicated service as a mold maker. He had also worked for Owens Illinois Glass Works and Laclede Steel in Alton, Illinois. He enjoyed attending the Pin Oak Township and Troy Senior Citizens events. He was an avid fan of stock cars, racing and the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed his days of bowling and watching sports. He is survived by his former wife and friend, Karen Cannon of East Alton; a daughter, Stacey Noelle Koenig of East Alton; a son, Tyce (Cherie Clendenen) Koenig of South Roxana; two step-granddaughters, Jenna and Lauren Clendenen of South Roxana; three siblings, Gary (Sharon) Koenig of Edwardsville, Phyllis (John) Marshall of South Roxana and Kirby Koenig of Edwardsville; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In celebration of his life and in accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no service will be held. Memorials may be made to Treehouse Wildlife Center, 23956 Green Acres Road, Dow, IL 62022 and may be accepted online at www.treehousewildlifecenter.com.
