Robert Eugene Franklin was born January 19, 1955, in Alton Illinois to the union of the late Mr. Robert R. Franklin and Mrs. Jennie (née Hyndman) Franklin. Robert received his formal education in the Alton public school system graduating from Alton High School in 1973. Upon graduation, he attended Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville for electrical engineering. On April 11, 1980, he married Vallarie Franklin (Davis) and to this union, two children were born; Robbie and Johnathan. Robert was a man of many talents and nicknames. He was known as “Corvair Kid”, “Lawnmower Man” and “Mr. Fix-it”. Robert started in the workforce at Synder’s Department Store. He soon joined UPS and proudly gave 29 years of dedicated service until his retirement. After retirement, Robert continued to remain active and gainfully employed with U-Haul, Cheapy’s Tires, O’reilly’s Auto Parts, and other odd jobs including lawn service.
Robert Eugene Franklin departed this earthly home at the tender age of 66, Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Christian Northeast Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Robert was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Vallarie Franklin; two sons, Robbie Franklin (Fred Hogan) of Douglasville, GA and Jonathan Franklin of Overland, MO; one brother, Michael Franklin of Godfrey, IL and two grandchildren, Donovan and Mason Hogan-Franklin Douglasville, GA other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 3:00 pm. Services held at Millennium Temple 801 Blair Ave. Alton, IL 62002
