Robert Bucher

Robert A. Bucher, 94, of Wood River, passed away on January 18th, 2026.

Robert Bucher was born on April 23, 1931, in Cairo, Illinois, to Aloysius "Dutch" and Ruby (Copeland) Bucher. He married Josephine Romano; she preceded him in death.

Robert was a veteran of the United States Army and went on to build a career as a technical writer and systems analyst with McDonnell Douglas. He was a faithful member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, Illinois.

An avid outdoorsman, Robert loved duck hunting and fishing, especially for crappie, and enjoyed gardening. He was a talented, self-taught painter and musician, an enthusiastic naturalist and arborist, and held a private pilot’s license. He was also a lifetime member of the Alton Wood River Sportsman’s Club.

Robert is survived by his children: retired Lt. Colonel of the United States Marine Corps Stephen (Cristina) Bucher of Washington, D.C.; Susan (Tim) Taylor of Savannah, Texas; David (Sally) Bucher of Allen, Texas; Margi (John) Williams of McKinney, Texas; and Sarah Rose of Alton, Illinois; twelve grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Josephine, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Raymond Bucher, Donald Bucher, and Kathleen “Khaki” Booher.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey, Illinois, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. A committal service will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
