Richard Charles Halemeyer, 96, passed away at 12 pm Monday August 29, 2016 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab.

He was born on December 2, 1919 in Golden Eagle, the son of Fritz and Minerve (Kulp) Halemeyer.

Richard married Betty L. McKenney on May 23, 1953 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels where they are members.

Richard served in the US Army during WWII after his military service he became grain and livestock farmer. He also loved to do volunteer work at the Lutheran Child and Family Services in Hardin, fishing, and gathering and cracking walnuts during the fall season.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two sons, Randy Halemeyer of Fort Madison, Iowa and Michael (Erna) Halemeyer of Golden Eagle; four grandchildren, Jaclyn (Chris) Dennison, Kevin (Kelsey) Halemeyer, Laura Sprague, and James Halemeyer; seven great grandchildren, Cole, Nikki, Briahna, Braydon, Devon, Alyssa and Erin; and one sister, Ruth Kaibel of Golden Eagle.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Sherry Halemeyer; three brothers, Fred, Cliff, and Pete Halemeyer; three sisters, Mildred Hagen, Laura Sagez, and Louise Herter.

Visitation will be from 9 am until time of funeral services at 11 am Thursday, September 1 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels.

Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Lutheran Child and Family Services or charity of one’s choice.
