Richard Beck

In Loving Memory of Richard Neil Beck II

10/4/1965 – 11/12/2025

If you were lucky enough to know Rich, you knew there was never a dull moment when he was around. He lived life with heart, humor, and a mischievous sparkle in his eye that often meant an inappropriate joke was coming — and usually at just the right (or wrong) time to make everyone laugh. He had a gift for lightening the mood, reminding those around him not to take life too seriously, even when it was hard.

Rich was a devoted husband, father, and friend whose love for his family ran deep and steady. He was the kind of dad who showed up for everything — video or pinball games, amusement parks, school presentations, flying planes, planting gardens, four wheeler rides, airsoft tournaments- the everyday moments that mattered most. His children were his greatest pride, and he poured his heart into teaching them how to live with kindness, courage, humor, and curiosity but to not let anyone give them grief either. Through the years he didn’t hesitate to change a diaper, help with homework, or plan a family adventure, and he led with love and laughter. When his family of four would go out to eat, he would see the bill, make a face of shock and ask, “Jesus, what did you guys eat?” making his family laugh each time.

A lifelong educator, Rich spent his career as a middle school teacher and football coach, shaping young minds and inspiring countless students. He had a rare ability to connect with kids — through humor, honesty, and the kind of straightforward wisdom that sticks with you long after the bell rings. He had nicknames for everyone. He was tough when he needed to be, but he cared deeply, and his students and players always knew it.

He was a huge fan of football, baseball, golf, beer and gambling. He loved to root for the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Reds even though he would cheer for the Triad Knights and the St. Louis Cardinals just as hard. He wouldn’t let Melissa leave the casino when he was “on a heater” and loved to play poker, slot machines or golf with his buddies every chance he could.

Traveling was something that he and Melissa cherished together. They traveled all over the world and Rich lived for new experiences and faraway places — seeking out those adventures that brought him close to animals-especially elephants, Sheldon the giraffe, stingrays, or the monkeys on Gibraltar. Anytime he was given a chance, he recounted his favorite memory of snorkeling in a “shark frenzy” in Belize.

Rich lived fully, laughed loudly, and loved deeply. He found humor in the hard times, adventure in the everyday, and beauty in the people and world around him. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and love that will echo in the hearts of everyone lucky enough to have known him.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa, his sons Richie [Ava Sarfaty] and Stephen [Meagan Blanton], his brother Norman Beck [Sherri], nephews Ryan Beck [Olivia and Gatlyn] and Jordan Beck, plus a multitude of family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, November 23 at Triad Middle School in St. Jacob, IL. Rich loved Triad and sports everything, so visitors are invited to wear their Triad gear or favorite team wear for visiting beginning at 11:00 am. Formal remarks will begin at 1:30pm with some open story-telling afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family may wish to contribute to the Richie Beck Award for a deserving Triad athlete by writing a check payable to Triad Athletics with a note of “Richie Beck Award” or by sending money through Venmo to: @Sherri-Beck with a note of “Richie Beck Award”. Flower deliveries may be made to the middle school on Saturday beginning at 9 am.
