Richard "Rich" S. Bain, 85, of Bethalto, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, at his residence.
He was born on February 28, 1939 in Granite City, the son of James T. and May (McCarty) Bain. Rich married Barbara Jean (Kroack) on May 6, 1967 in LaCrecent, MN. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2015.
Rich was the owner and operator of Bain Construction for many years. He also owned Dairy Palace. Rich was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto and Knights of Columbus Hall in Bethalto. He enjoyed to hunt, fish and garden.
Survivors include his children, Jeanne (Sam) Madrey, Melissa (Scott) Mugge, and Christine (Jay) Grant; a brother, Jimmy Bain; eight grandchildren, Jayda (Josh) Bick, Tyler (Summer) Madrey, Brannon (Meghan) Stamper, Alexandra (Davis) Beck, Kassandra (Lucas) Pulley, Ethan Johnson, Andrew Grant, and Audrey Grant; seven great-grandchildren, Kennady, Alaina Gwenievere, Malakai, Eloise, Mason, and Aubrey; two nieces, Donna Brown and Debbie Brown; as well as several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Along with his parents, and wife, Barbara Jean, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Sunny Bain, Jerry Bain, and Bill Bain; and a sister, Ruth Ann "Sis" McEntyre.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 3 pm until time of service at 5 pm, at Cornerstone Church in Bethalto. Pastor Kermit Barker will officiate. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is assisting the family with final wishes.
Memorials are suggested to Cornerstone Church.
