Raymond Edward Porter, 93, passed away at 1:30 p.m., October 30, 2024 at his residence.
Born December 30, 1930 in Metropolis, IL, he was the son of Auttie F., Sr. and Gracie Louise (Stites) Porter.
A U.S. Army veteran, he had worked in the Primer Department for the Olin Corporation for 42 years before retiring in 1993. He had been a 74 year member of the Hartford Assembly of God Church, where he had taught the "Royal Rangers," served as a board member, usher, bus driver, and greeter.
On December 1, 1950 in Vienna, IL, he married Marjorie Gilreath. She died May 20, 2019.
Surviving are two sons, David (Sandy) Porter, Dan (Jennifer) Porter; a daughter, Ramona (Jeffrey) Martin; seven grandchildren, Ben Martin, Jessica Collman, Rebekah Higgerson, Rachel Fulkerson, Hannah Smith, Caleb Porter, Anna Porter; and 11 great grandchildren, Xavier, Blake, Eva, Sam, Thorin, Remmington, Cora, Christopher, Nayvie, Ruby, and Waylon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene Porter and Auttie F. Porter, Jr.; and a sister, Alice King.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday. Pastor Jeffrey Martin will officiate.
Burial will follow in Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana with military honors presented by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials are suggested to the Hartford Fire Department.
