Raymond L. Cloninger, 74, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025, at StoneBridge in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
He was born April 22, 1951, in Bernie, Missouri, a son of the late Vernon and Maudie Cloninger and was a sibling of Dorothy, Gene, Pauline and Roy.
He married Nancy Jean (Stroder) Cloninger on April 15, 1972, in Granite City and she passed away on October 16, 2004.
Raymond retired as a steelworker from Laclede Steel in Alton and later as a custodian from Granite City High School. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed his days of fishing and was very talented in carpentry work, remodeling, tinkering and working on cars.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Laura Smith of Granite City and Faye Stroder of Chicago; nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to beloved wife, parents and siblings, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeremy R. Cloninger and a daughter, Melissa Cloninger.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. until time of a funeral service at 12:00 noon. Burial with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City.
