Prentiss McGary

Prentiss Douglas McGary, 84, of Belleville, IL, born on September 13, 1941, in Batesville, MS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2026, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, IL.

Prentiss achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force. Mac saw a lot of the world in his role as a General's Aide. He enjoyed fishing and his coffee klatch at Schnuck's in O'Fallon.

Prentiss was preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma McGary (nee Sweeney), his brother Bud, and sisters Frances, Louise, and infant son Prentiss D McGary, Jr.

Surviving Prentiss is his former wife, Sue McGary of, Lebanon, IL; Stepsons David James, Buffalo, Wy, Keith James, Conroe, TX, and Anthony James, Boulder, Co.

A memorial service will take place on Tues, June 2, 2026, 11:00 AM at Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O’Fallon, IL 62269. Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery; 2900 Sheridan Rd., St. Louis, MO 63125.
