Patricia Neumann

Patricia “Pat” Lorene Groves Neumann; Born September 12, 1941, she passed peacefully in her sleep on January 3, 2026. She was the oldest of 7, her parents Wayne and Lorene Groves lived in Alton and moved to Greenville.

Pat grew up in Alton, graduating from Alton High School Class of 1959. After High School she worked at the glass works then attended Greenville College, during this time she met the love of her life, James R Neumann Sr through mutual friends in Alton. They married on March 26, 1962, and moved to California where Jim was stationed and was deployed on the USS Yorktown. Pat worked at Sears in California.

After the Navy they moved back to the St. Louis area and Pat became a homemaker.

After purchasing their first home in Alton, Jim and Pat started their own Business, Neumann Automotive, located behind their house on Orchard Blvd. They were members of the St Marks United Methodist Church and later the Metropolitan United Methodist Church where she worked as a secretary for the Church and Fred Beck. Pat and Jim were youth group sponsors and active members of Metropolitan United Methodist Church.

Pat was a member of the Sweet Adelines of Alton and a quartet group, she attended competitions with this group.

Their business flourished and was relocated to Washington Ave in Upper Alton, where they were members of the Upper Alton Business Association. They were in business together for 27 years, until retiring and selling the property.

Pat did not stop there, she started a resume and digital creation service before it became popular, it was called Helping Hands. She would help with your resume and did training material for Eveready Battery, American Express and Purina Mills were among her leading clients. She also researched and built genealogy for the Groves Family along with some other close friends.

Pat continued after 2000 and went to work for Olin Credit Union as a Cashier, winning employee of the month in December 2009. Pat was the last to retire from Olin in 2010 the day before the name changed to 1st MidAmerica Credit Union.

Pat and Jim loved to travel in their motor home, spending countless winters in the south and out west.

Jim and Pat were married 62 years before his passing on July 22, 2024.

She left a legacy through her family, Son Jim Neumann (Ruth Birmingham)of Alton, Daughter TJ Nappier (Scott) of Bethalto. Grand Children - James (Jessica) Neumann of Mascoutah. Keagan Nappier (Dan Hagerty) of Webster Groves, Mo, Brian (Katie) Nappier of Midway, Jessica Neumann (Josh Hull) of East Alton, GySgt Daniel (Alexis) Nappier of N. Carolina, Jenna (Jake) Giess of Alton, Tricia (Tanner) Braswell of Prairietown. Great Grand Children Waylon Neumann, Bethany Nappier, Lane Nappier, Evan Hull, Hadley Jo Braswell, Ava Hull, and James Giess with 1 on the way, Baby Boy Braswell.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 4:00 pm until time of service at 7:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Graveside services will be held Thursday January 8, 2026, 11:00 am at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be given to The Alzheimer’s Association, Bethalto United Methodist Church, and/or Oasis Women’s Center where her granddaughter Jenna Giess serves as the Executive Director.
