Ola Hoorebeke

With gratitude for the life she lived and the love she shared, we honor the memory of Ola Mae Van Hoorebeke, of O’Fallon, IL, who passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on May 30, 2026.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Hagler, and her second husband, Col. Jack Van Hoorebeke; her parents Lottie Mae and Justin Ernest Rice; six older sisters: Opal, Marietta, Katherine, Ernestine, Francis, and Miriam; and three older brothers: Karl, Robert, and Harold.

Ola is survived by her loving children: daughters Gail (Tim) Fleming of O’Fallon, IL;

Lynn (Jim) McEvoy of Plymouth, MA., Joan (Bob) Davis of Saline, MI; and her son Steve (Carol) Hagler of St. Peters, MO. Ola was a loving, gracious, and kind mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Tamaroa, IL, in 1928, Ola attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She worked as a secretary at Pinckneyville, IL, High School from 1961 to 1964.

She also co-owned a shop entitled “Something Special” in O’Fallon, IL, which featured imported gifts, coffee, and chocolate. In addition to attending and volunteering at the1st United Methodist Church of O’Fallon, Ola was a talented artist, specializing in painting and basket weaving.

Visitation will be held on Saturday June 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O’Fallon, IL. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM. Burial services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin, IL at 1:30 PM.
