Milton V. “Shorty” Ruyle, 95, died at 4:38 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023 in the Emergency Room at Jersey Community Hospital.
He was born on March 24, 1928 in Medora, Illinois and was the son of Emery and Cleo (Ruyle) Wallis and was a United States Navy Veterans, serving in the 1940’s.
He married the former Mary Jones on June 8, 1949 and together they recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
Shorty worked at Laclede Steel in Alton for several years, prior to accepting employed with Olin Illinois in Godfrey, where he retired as a Forklift Operator.
He was a member of the Wood River Moose Lodge and was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for 46 years. He was a member of Jerseyville Lodge $53, Jerseyville Encampment #20, Queen City #58 and A.M.O.S. #262 in Granite City. Additionally, he belonged to the Lewis & Clark Amateur Radio Club and was an amateur radio buff for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ruyle of Jerseyville; and a brother in-law and sister in-law, Dick and Linda Jones of Jerseyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters and a son in-law, Mary Kay and John Bader and Linda E. Ruyle; a brother in-law, Lee Johns Jr.; as well as his grandparents, Roy and Alda Ruyle.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until time of Odd Fellow services at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492 conducting full military honors.
In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville or to Jerseyville I.O.O.F. Lodge #53.
