Mildred Marie (Millie) Kadell, 97, died June 9, 2026, at Accolade Healthcare in Savoy, Illinois.
A longtime resident of Jersey County, Mildred was born on May 19, 1929, in Carrollton, Illinois to Frank and Ethel (Green) Hagen. She attended historic Hamilton Primary School in Otterville and later graduated from Jersey Community High School.
She married Edward Kadell on January 8, 1949, and they had a daughter, Bonnie. Her husband preceded her in death on January 12, 1960.
Following the unexpected death of her husband, she worked hard throughout her life at many jobs, starting as a telephone operator, and later in manufacturing. She retired from White House Manufacturing in White Hall.
Mildred loved gardening and growing flowers. She was gifted with a green thumb and never found a plant she could not grow! She also loved reading cookbooks and trying new recipes, as well as sewing and crochet.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Lance (Aimee) Ballard of Champaign and Kelsey (Dave) Kirgan of Glen Carbon, her great-grandchildren Jason, Jack, Kaitlynn, Brett, Thomas, and Zachary, her special nephew Randy Green and niece JoAn Benz, as well as many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie (Larry) Ballard and her granddaughter Angela, her sister Dorothy Green, and her brothers Frank (Bud) Hagen, Jr. and Donald Hagen.
Her family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the caregivers and nurses at Carriage Crossing in Champaign for their compassionate care of Millie over the past few years, as well as Transitions Hospice.
Private family interment services will be held at a later date, with Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville in charge of arrangements.
