Matthew Foster

Matthew Alan “Matt” Foster, 63, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 9:13 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois.

Born on January 9, 1962, in Granite City, Matt was the beloved son of John Patrick and Katleen A. (Perry) Foster, who survive. He was a dedicated laborer throughout his career, having worked at Carter Lumber in Granite City, Great Central Lumber in Alton, and most recently with the Metro East Sanitary District.

A lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, Matt held a deep appreciation for faith, family, and the outdoors. He found joy in fishing, hunting, and spending time at his Coffeen Lake getaway. Known for his sense of humor, Matt loved to tell jokes and was always ready with a quip—especially when it came to playfully teasing his nieces and nephews. His warm personality, love for people, and easy laughter left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Matt is survived by his loving sister, Jo Elaine Foster; three brothers, Mark (Kathy) Foster, Pat (Debbie) Foster, and John “Eric” Foster, all of Granite City; cherished nieces and nephews, Stacey, Patrick, Jordan, Sophia, and Madison; a dear great-niece, Lexi; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Avenue, Granite City, with Father Steve Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Memorial donations may be made to the Granite City APA or offered as Masses. Contributions will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
