Mary Sullivan

Mary Louise Sullivan, 84, of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

She was born October 25, 1940, in Caledonia, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Bud Thomas and Eleanor Louise (Stack) Sowell.

She retired from Mallinckrodt after many years of dedicated service as an operator. She was a faithful member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Granite City since 1962 and a was a loving mom, grandma, great grandma and sister. She loved dancing and was a member of Slappers Dance Club and also enjoyed rollerskating, sewing and working with crafts.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Rhonda Leigh and Jack Redman of Bois D Arc, Missouri and Cathy Leigh Richland and fiancé, Bill Harrington of Collinsville, Illinois; five grandchildren, NaTasha Douglas (Christy) McNece, Richard Sullivan, Ellen Reeves, MaRanda (Keith) Dickerson and Phillip Lee Thomas; nine great grandchildren; Adrianna Nicole Sullivan, Ella Mueller, Carter Thomas, Summer Rowden, Tinsley Dickerson, Tyson Dickerson, Braelynn McNece, Taylor Dickerson and Jackson Thomas; a great-great grandchild on the way; four step-grandchildren, Kari Redman, Laura (Siro) Herkenrath, Audrey (Bryan) Locke and SchanDona Redman; five step-great grandchildren, Irelyn Redman, Damo Herkenrath, Theo Herkenrath, Abrie Locke and Aurora Locke; a sister, Mattie Beatrice Calvert of Murray, Kentucky; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Cora Blessing and Dorothy Laverne Sowell and a brother, John Thomas Sowell.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, with Pastor David Denton officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
