Mary Storey

Mary Margaret Lenora (Schuetz) Storey, 86, of Grafton, Illinois went peacefully home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at her home in Grafton with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. She was born on July 5, 1939 in Alton to the late Lester Clement and Rozella (Dunn) Schuetz.

Over the years Mary worked various jobs in the health care field working with visiting nurses and at Alton Mental Health as a nurse’s aide in the 1970’s. She spent the majority of her career working over 30 years at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, Illinois beginning as a nurse’s aide and finishing her last 20 years as an LPN retiring in 2004. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Godfrey where she loved the preaching and singing the old fashioned hymns that she knew as a child. Over the years she enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, embroidering, reading and doing word search puzzles. Her favorite pastime was long phone chats with her kids and grandkids who called just to see how she’s doing.

Early in her life she was previously married and blessed with six children who she leaves behind: Bruce (Kim) Kendall, Bryan (Ingrid) Kendall, Barry Kendall, Brenda (Merle) Carter, Brett (Kim) Kendall and Benjamin Kendall. She especially was blessed to be grandma to 12 grandchildren: Aaron (Olivia) Kendall, Jacob (Whitney) Kendall, Joshua (Jennifer) Kendall, Adam (Katie) Kendall, Faith (Randy) Hemingway, Brian (Heather) Kendall, Jason (Kelly) Kendall, Seth Shelton, Beau Shelton, Ezra (Adra) Shelton, Joshua Kendall and Nicole Kendall, as well as 21 surviving great-grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren were the greatest joy in her life, and they will miss her dearly. Also surviving are her step-brother Perry Curvey and step-sister Sally Dolehide, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers Gene, Earl, Keith and James Schuetz, her three sisters Elsie Manley, Eileen McLain and Lois Graham, her husband John Storey, her great-granddaughter Jayne Kendall, her great-grandson Gabriel Hemingway, her step-mother Elvera Schuetz, and step-brothers Tom and Vernell Curvey.

Visitation will be Friday, December 5, 2025 from 4:00 pm until funeral service at 6 pm. Pastors Jon Taylor and Thomas Olney will be officiating. After cremation, interment will be at a later date in Valhalla Cemetery in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to Faith Baptist Church in Godfery.

Special thanks to Vitas Hospice for taking excellent care of Mary during her final months. Her family greatly appreciates their loving care for her.
