Mary Ellen Denton, 76, died at 10:41 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2024 surrounded by her family and friends at her residence. She was born December 27, 1947 in Shelbyville, IL the daughter of the late Luther and Viola (Wheat) Hill. She was a hairdresser for many years at JC Penny in Alton. On January 10, 1965 in Decatur, IL she married Darrell Francis Denton and he preceded her in death on January 28, 2005. Surviving are one daughter, Darris Denton of Alton and four nieces. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Gary Hill and Frederick Hill and three sisters, Patricia Baine, Ruth Rambo and infant sister, Linda Hill. A memorial visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Hudson Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be made to Evergreen Place Activity Fund.
