Marlene Mary Hampton, 88, of Glen Carbon, Illinois passed away at St. Louis University Hospital on Friday, December 26, 2025.
She was born August 28, 1937, in East St. Louis, Illinois, a daughter of the late Stanley Leo and Bernice (Fairy) Beans.
She married Sonny Samuel Hampton in September 1963, in East St. Louis and he passed away on December 13, 1991.
Marlene was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Edwardsville. She cherished her family and her church friends and always enjoyed going shopping and going out to eat.
She is survived by four children, Sheree Blow of Missouri, Mark LaPlantz of Millstadt, Patricia Johnson of Glen Carbon and Jennifer (Quintin) Lewis of Glen Carbon; nine grandchildren, Mark James LaPlantz Jr., Rachel Blow, Luke Blow, Christopher Johnson, Alicia James, Ashley Harris, Antonio McKinney, Taeya Lewis and Jayden Lewis; eight great grandchildren, Alyssa, Logan, Neriah, Maddox, Aminah, Aaliyah, An-Nur and Amelia; a niece, Denise Hayden; two nephews, Bryan Hayden and Christopher Hayden; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Roger Hampton; a sister, Shirley Doome and a brother, Stanley Beans Jr.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, with Josh Ayres officiating.
She will be laid to rest with her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Edwardsville.
