Margaret Prehn

Margaret Louise Prehn, 87 of Glen Carbon, IL passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

Margaret was born on December 30, 1933, in Herod, IL; the daughter of the late James and Lillian (Lambert) Howton. Margaret was a management analyst for the Federal Government and a member of Troy United Methodist Church. In her free time, Margaret enjoyed her days of quilting, reading, and a shared interest in American Girl dolls with her granddaughters and great-granddaughter. Margaret especially loved going to reunions with the Howton family and getting together with her past co-workers from the Granite City Army Depot. Most of all Margaret loved to spend time with her family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.

Margaret is survived by and will be missed by her husband; Richard “Dick” Prehn, whom she married on August 29, 1952; son, Richard “Rick” and Cindy Prehn of Maryville; granddaughters, Courtney and Chris Juhasz, Lindsay and Justin Phillips; great-granddaughter, Virginia Phillips; brothers, Gary and Nancy Howton, Gerald and Mary Howton, Stanley Howton; sister, Sandra and Jerry Dawson and many other close family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Howton, Robert Howton, James Howton, Michael Howton; sisters, Norma Rains, Verna Angell, Kathleen Billingsley.

In celebration of Margaret’s life, a visitation will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorial donations are suggested to the Glen Carbon Centennial Library.
