Lucy Blaes, nee Libro, was born on March 1, 1934, in Carlinville, IL, and passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. She was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and generous spirit touched everyone that knew her.
She married Richard C. Blaes 68 years ago at St. Mary’s Church where they were both involved parishioners committed to supporting the church and school. They were blessed with seven children, 14 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She was extremely proud of each of them, and her happiest moments were spent in their company.
Lucy spent her life caring for others including the many years she worked as a Registered Nurse. Her tremendous compassion, engaging smile and unwavering faith provided great comfort to family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Flamina, Libro; two brothers, Anthony and Charles Libro; a sister, Rosie Dustman; a nephew, Charles Libro; and grandson, Michael Blaes.
Surviving are her husband, Richard C. Blaes; her children, Jean (Anthony) Heafner, Barbara Blaes, Joan (Patrick) Jaeger, Laurie Blaes, Richard (Bridget) Blaes, Patricia (Thomas) Jasonowicz, and Ann (Scott) Radden; grandchildren, Thomas (Brittany) Heafner, Timothy (Whitney) Heafner, James (Veronica) Heafner, Megan (William) Koss, John (Nicole) Heafner, Brian (Kelsey) Jaeger, Nicholas (Megan) Blaes, John Jasonowicz, Alexis (Christian) Madsen, Sarah Jasonowicz, Robert (Kimberly) Radden, Margaret Blaes, Elinor Blaes; and great-grandchildren, Hudson, Penelope, Finley, Isabel, Lucille, Graham, August, Louis, Eleanor and Alvin Heafner, and Lucy and Clare Koss.
The family would like to thank the residents and staff of the Benedictine Living Community at The Shrine and Hospice of Southern Illinois for the friendship and compassionate care they provided Lucy and their entire family.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Chapel of the Benedictine Living Community at the Shrine, Belleville, IL.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Chapel of the Benedictine Living Community at the Shrine, Belleville, IL.
Burial will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
