Lois Kenser

Lois Jeanette (Walker) Kenser, age 66, of Cottage Hills, was taken to heaven by the Lord’s Angels at 8:15 a.m., April 2, 2015, at Alton Rehab & Nursing Home in Alton, Illinois.

She was born in Alton, Illinois on September 9, 1948 to Ralph J. & Cora M. (Palmer) Walker.  She married Jerry Lee Kenser on April 12, 1974 in Alton.  He died on July 20, 2008.

Lois was a 1966 graduate of Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto and was in the National Honor Society.  She worked for the Bethalto School System as a secretary in the Superintendent’s office for many years, then she and her husband were managers for the Motel 6 chain in Porterville, California for three years.  They returned to the Alton area in 1983, where Lois worked at Lewis & Clark Community College as a secretary for 23 years until her retirement in 2006.

Lois professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at the age of 13.  She attended the Forrest Mission Assembly of God Church in Forest Homes, Illinois until her move to California with her husband.

Lois liked to crochet, read and travel.  She and her husband traveled to several states to trace his genealogy.  Lois loved her nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great nephews and she was an animal lover.  Her “children” were her dog Mooch and cats Gracie & Tipper.

She is survived by her siblings and their spouses:  Nancy L. Walker, Dale & Linda (Vatole) Walker and Larry “Beau” Walker, all of Cottage Hills, Mary & Mike Mixon of Independence, MO., and Gary & Nanette Walker of El Cajon, California; two nephews & three nieces and their spouses; Kyle & Tamara Walker of Liberty, MO., Marissa & Donta Cunningham, Miranda & Anthony Hellar, all of Independence, MO., Grace Ruth Walker & Josiah Timothy Walker, both of El Cajon, California; great nieces & nephews Jordon Mixon, Ekyra Cunningham, Donta Cunningham Jr., Jocelyn Mixon, Elijah Betancourt and Antoneyo Hellar, all of Independence, MO; one uncle and aunt, Edgar & Hallene Palmer of Dorsey, IL, and many, many cousins & friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry; her parents, Ralph & Cora Walker; her in-laws, Leroy & Hazel Kenser; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday April 6, 2015 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the funeral home with the Rev. Dave Burger officiating.

Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Lemay, Missouri.  Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice of Alton.
