Leslie Hatton

Leslie R. Hatton, 85, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025.

He was born in Alton, IL, on July 16, 1940, the son of Charles and Margaret (Ziegler) Hatton. Leslie married Judith Ann Dawdy in Jerseyville, IL, on July 2, 1964, and she survives.

After serving in the United States Navy, Leslie spent most of his adult life in Bethalto, where he built a life centered on family, friendship, and simple joys. He retired from IBM after a long and dedicated career, and in retirement he discovered his true passion, golf. He looked forward to his weekly rounds with his golfing buddies, where the laughter was often more important than the score.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judith; his daughter, Rebecca Lynn Williams; a son, Leslie Arthur Hatton. He was also the proud grandfather to Donnie, Lindsay, Becca, Shane, Sydne, and Jordan; and "Papa Great" to 13 great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy.

Leslie will be remembered for his patience, his gentle and loving nature, and the dry sense of humor that never failed to bring a smile to those around him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 4 to 6 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, where funeral services will also be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 10 am. Pastor Terry McKinzie will officiate.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, with military honors conducted by Alton VFW Post #1308.
