Leroy Watley was born on June 11, 1945, to the late Mr. LQ Watley and the late Mrs. Florene (Jackson) Watley in Ennis, MS.
Leroy graduated from Harrison High School in Blytheville, AR. He later moved to Alton. He worked and retired from Owens Glassworks.
Leroy accepted Christ at 12 years old at True Light Baptist Church where he attended with his mother and sisters. In 2019, he rededicated his life and renewed his love for God.
Leroy lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed those long days of fishing, then coming home to brag about the fish he caught or cussing about the ones he didn’t. Leroy was a cooking man. He cooked every day like it was Sunday. Yet, he still looked forward to Sundays, so he could cook his famous Sunday dinners for him and his baby sister Modiner, whom he prepared daily meals for.
After a long day, Leroy enjoyed watching western TV shows with his buddy Maxx (dog). He lived a very social and loving life with many friends. He was the life of the party and would light up any room he entered. He had a heart of gold he made everyone feel like they were special to him. He was one of the most caring and loving man that you will ever meet.
On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2022, with family by his side, Leroy gained his wings and took flight from earth to a place where there is no more hurt or pain.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, wife Bonita Lucas Watley, daughter Dorothy Lacey, stepson Daryl Womack, great-granddaughter Chloe Gleason, brothers-in-law Walter Brown, sisters-in-laws Mattie Jean Lucas and Lillian Ann Womack, nephew Kenneth Brown, Sr., and nieces Kimberly Sanders and Diane Conley.
Leroy leaves to forever cherish his memories his children; Quincy (Margaret) Watley, Leroy Watley, Shemeka Washpun, Travis Watley, Jasmine (Aaron) Longstreet, and Carolyn James; grandchildren: Kenyata, Kara, Daren, Lee, Quincy, Carlandus, Shyla, I’Shanae, Curtis, A’Kiyah, Travis, Jr., Tra’Velle, Tra’Niyah, Michael, Zariah, Zyaire, Aair’ana, Aaron, Jr., Aaris and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Lorene Conley and Modiner Brown, uncle/like brother Robert Lee (Cynthia) Payns, nieces Karla Boyd, Katrina (Michael) Scott, Kelly Brown, KaShauna Whitehead and Kristain (Ron) Duncan; nephew Preston Conley, brother-in-law Leroy (Lorraine) Lucas, sister-in-laws Annie Lee (Clement) West, Joyce Lucas, and Lora Jones; longtime friends Carrie Watley and Richard Conley; dog Maxx; a few special friends, and a host of family and friends.
