Laura Jean Chepely, 60, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 1:49 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was born December 14, 1965, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the daughter of the late Robert L. and Brenda (Wagner) Rains.
Laura worked as a bartender at Lenny’s Tavern in West Granite, where she truly enjoyed serving others and visiting with friends and patrons alike. She also dedicated many years of service as a manager with Dollar General, where her strong work ethic and friendly spirit were appreciated by coworkers and customers.
Laura found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved playing in pool and dart leagues and spending time with friends, but her greatest happiness came from the love she shared with her family. She deeply cherished the special moments spent with her children, grandchildren, and sisters, who meant the world to her.
She is survived by her two sons, Mark Allen Chepely and Mathew Lee Chepely of Granite City; two beloved grandchildren, Jayden Scott Aguilar and Serena Jean Chepely; three sisters, Michelle Rains of Missouri, Teresa Polette of Granite City, and Carol Rains of Missouri; her significant other and best friend of 12 years, Barry Trail; along with nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sheryl Horgan.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be held at Second Baptist Church, 2100 Illinois Avenue in Granite City, on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of a memorial service at 5:00 p.m., with Pastor Chris Sedabres officiating. A memorial dinner will follow.
