Kris Joseph Spotanski, 66, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 24th, 2026, in Glen Carbon. Kris was born January 21st, 1960, in Belleville, IL to Paula and the late Roy Spotanski.
Kris was a dedicated and loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend to those he knew. Kris served as a Master Sgt. for the U.S. Army assigned to the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, retired as a Paralegal Specialist for the U.S. Social Security Administration, and dedicated himself as a Troop Treasurer for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 1048. Often Kris spent his time watching St. Louis sports, homebrewing beer, and enriching his knowledge of the 1940’s Eastern Front. Kris was a kind man who enjoyed history, classic rock, old horror films, the art of cooking, and the local community of uptown Collinsville where he resided.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Stephanie Lynn Spotanski, whom he married on April 19th, 1997, and his father Roy E. Spotanski.
Surviving are his daughter and son, Kaitlyn and Joseph Spotanski; his mother, Paula Spotanski; siblings Keith Spotanski, Kimberly Peterson and husband Rob Peterson, and Kelly Sobczak and husband Larry Sobczak; mother-in-law Barbara McDowell; sisters-in-law Angela Losch and husband Jarrod Losch, and Carrie Bair and husband Jonathan Bair; many nieces; nephews; as well as extended family and friends.
In celebration of Kris’s life, a graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO., with full military honors to be conducted by the United States Army.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL., on Tuesday, at 9:15 a.m. and the funeral procession will leave at 9:30 a.m.
