Kermit Schien

Kermit D. Schien, 88, died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born December 29, 1936 in New Douglas, IL, he was the son of Louis F. and Minnie (Miller) Schien. 

Kermit served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey.  He retired as a delivery driver for UPS.  He was an avid golfer and loved woodworking.

On October 30, 1958 he married the former Ruth Ann Storck in Charleston, IL. She survives. 

Also surviving are two daughters, Karla Poindexter (George) of Alton and Gail Pijut (Larry) of Troy, IL, one son, Brad Schien of St. Louis, MO.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Courtney, Spencer, Chelsea, Cory, Alyssa, Nikolaus, Alex and Cassie, nine great grandchildren, Hayley, Aden, Owen, Willow, Weston, Parker, Ainsley, Evan and Oliver, and one brother, Leon Schien of Summerfield, FL. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Darrel, Leroy, Clarence and Kenneth Schien, and three sisters, Ruth Wise, Millie Hughson and Elva Hatcher. 

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2025 at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey. Reverend Tim Darmour-Paul will officiate. 

Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Alhambra with full military honors. 

Memorials may be made to Evangelical United Church of Christ. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
