Judith Lynn Stepanek, 77 of Brussels, passed peacefully at her home Saturday evening, October 19, 2024.
Judy was a graduate of Granite City High School; there she played softball and was on the swim team. After high school she and her family moved to Brussels, where she started a bakery in town. Her baked goods were a well-known delicacy, her turnovers were always a favorite at family holidays, and you’ll never taste a cream puff as good as hers. In her more recent years, she worked for local orchards. She loved fishing, gardening, and spending time with her family. Judy was also a firm believer in God and an avid member of St. Patrick’s church in Grafton.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents Joseph & Mary (Culiberk) Stepanek, brother Joseph Stepanek, and brother and sister-in-law Richard & Sandy Stepanek. Judy is survived by her two sisters-in-law, Carol Stepanek and Anne Stepanek, two nieces, Carol(Stan) Drainer and Angie (Joe) Tepen, six nephews, Joe(Beverly) Stepanek, Robert(Bonnie) Stepanek, Steve(Karen) Stepanek, Richard(Brandi) Stepanek, Paul(Sarah)Stepanek, and Charlie Stepanek. Judy also had 12 great nieces and nephews and 4 great-great nieces and nephews.
There will be a funeral mass held at St. Patrick’s Church in Grafton at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brussels.
