Judith Miller

Judith "Judy" Ann Miller, 82, died at 10 p.m. on November 6, 2024, at Alton Memorial Rehab and Therapy.

She was born on October 13, 1942, in Osceola, Iowa. She was the youngest daughter of Alfred "Pete" and Edna (Page) Sanders.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Mary V. Welch.

She married Ronald L. Miller on December 8, 1961. Together, they had four children before his death in 1992.

Judy served many in her life. She was a girl scout leader and a cub scout leader. She also served on many committees at Bethalto United Methodist Church. Her greatest thrill was her youth club years at the church. Judy was instrumental in opening the Bethalto Community Day Care at the church. She taught Sunday school for 3rd through 12th graders and was a sponsor of UMYF. She was the first woman to serve as Chairman of the Trustees.

Judy also served nine years as Chaplain for Alton Memorial Hospital. Then, she answered her call to become a pastor at her home church and Dewey Avenue UMC in Granite City. She also served as Chaplain at the United Methodist Village for 10 years and was Director of Lay Speaking for the UM Conference.

She leaves behind three daughters, Cindy (Ervin) Hash, Cheryl Scherff and her significant other Wayne Darr, Jodie (Jay) Chester, and her son, Ron "RC" (Meg) Miller.

She loved and cherished her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, where funeral services will also be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 10 a.m. Pastor Jon Simms will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
