Joseph Edgar Klohr, 95, of Belleville, IL, born December 10, 1930, in Belleville, IL, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2025, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, IL.
Joseph worked for Wayne Feed Company in East St. Louis, IL, as a feed mill loader and scale operator until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister, and was also a member of the church’s Men’s Club. Joe was a lifetime member of the Catholic War Veterans Butz-Jobe 370. He was also a part of St. Mary's and Althoff’s Work crew in which he cherished keeping the grounds immaculate and beautiful.
He was known as a hardworking man with a special passion for gardening and for cracking all the pecans collected by his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. His vegetable garden was one of his greatest pride and joys. He lovingly tended to his many vegetable plants, passing down not only his harvests but also his love, patience, and wisdom of gardening to his family. Time spent in the garden was time spent teaching, caring, and creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Above all, Joe valued his family. He found joy in simple moments and shared laughter. Joe took pride in being an Army veteran, sharing his Army stories with those around him. His steady presence, strong work ethic, and kind heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Mary Ann Klohr, nee Klich, whom he married on June 11, 1955, and who died on May 31, 2025; his parents, Jacob P. and Isabelle, nee Walter, Klohr; a son-in-law, Stefan Culver; and a grandson, Daniel Wescoat.
Surviving are six children, Patricia (Dennis) Ohlendorf, Sharon (Chuck) Wescoat, Joe Klohr, Anna (Dave) Smith, John (Jennifer) Klohr, and Angela Culver; 12 grandchildren, Sarah (Brian) Foster, Amy (Matt) Jany, Allison (Nick) Klucker, Andy Wescoat and Lauren Wescoat (Nathan Hidalgo), Jeremy (Betty) Smith, Morgan Smith, Natalie, Alex, and Mitchell Klohr, Braeden and Kaylin Culver; 14 great-grandchildren, Emma Roberson, Logan Foster, Hunter and Carter Jany, Addison, Zoe, and Luke Klucker, Summer and Madelyn Wescoat, Lincoln and Roman Hidalgo, Haley (Tyler) Pedroley, Ethan Hannah and Wyatt Smith; two great-great-grandchildren, Kyler and Emery Pedroley; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, Msgr. William McGhee and Msgr. John Myler concelebrating.
Burial with military honors will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
