Joseph J. Molloy, age 89, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center. He was born on November 2, 1922 in Alton, IL. He was the son of the late James and Nettie (Schmidt) Molloy.

On February 19, 1949, he married Lucia Zerwas at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton, IL. She survives.

He was a 1940 graduate of Marquette High School and a veteran of World War II. He was employed at Tri-City Grocery Co., Granite City, IL for 41 years, and also at Hansen Packing Co. in Jerseyville, IL for 5 years. After retirement he worked part-time at Rolling Hills Golf Course for 18 years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the surroundings and good times there with fellow workers and golfers.

He was a lifetime member of the Alton Knights of Columbus Council 460, on the St. Patrick Cemetery Board, an active member and Trustee of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister and for many years took Communion to the homebound.

In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, surviving are one son, Fr. Joseph M. Molloy, Pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur, IL; one sister, Marlene Furgason, of New Orleans, LA; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers & 2 sisters.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home, 220 Court St., Alton, IL from 5-8 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church at 10 a.m., with Fr. Joseph M. Molloy presiding. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery in Godfrey.

Memorials may be given to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 820 Homer Adams Parkway, Godfrey, IL, 62035. Staten-Fine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
